OK guys I got a real challenge here.
Basically about 20% of the time when starting my computer up it will go past BIOS to the Windows logo and before the loading dots show the system powers off instantly. Cold or warm boot doesn't seem to make a difference. If I go into BIOS or Boot Menu and manually boot to the SSD it seems to be a decent workaround, except on the very rare occasion it still shuts down (5% chance roughly). Please note that the computer runs 100% perfectly fine when windows is booted. I never have any other issues at all; and have stress-tested the living crap out of every aspect of the system at full loads without issue. This is ONLY a boot issue.
It's also worth noting I am an IT Systems Engineer; so if I am here it means I am desperate.
Here is my build and which parts I have swapped for the sake of troubleshooting but the problem still occurs.
I will put in brackets what I have tested and how. I have removed each part individually and left the rest of the system unchanged. Needless to say I have done and enormous amount of part-switching. Getting very over it.
Build:
CPU: i7-4790K (have swapped for a friends i5-4690K, issue still occurred)
Mobo: GA-Z97X-UD5H (swapped for an MSI H97M-E35, flashed BIOS for both, issue still occurred).
GPU: Sapphire R9 290X (swapped for another Sapphire 290X, also tried with a GTX 1070 just in case it was a model issue, problem still occurred).
Memory: 16GB (2x8GB) 2400mhz Corsair Vengeance (have tried each stick separately, different slots, different ram entirely, etc. problem still occurred)
PSU: Corsair AX760 Platinum (PSU tester shows fine, have also tested with EVGA 1000w G2 Supernova, problem still occurred)
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB (was OCZ Arc 100 250GB, cloned to Samsung recently, problem occurs on both)
HDD: 5x1TB Seagate (have detached when troubleshooting)
ODD: Samsung Generic DVD (have detached when troubleshooting)
Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 (was CM Hyper TX3 EVO until recently, problem occurred beforehand)
Case: In Win GR One w/ 5 internal 140mm fans. (case is new, problem occurred before case was purchased. thought it was possible my old case was shorting out somehow, but also was time for an upgrade.)
UPS: CyberPower CF1300PFCLCD 1300VA/780watt. (New purchase, issue occurred before UPS was installed.)
Peripherals: Logitech G302 Daedalus mouse, Logitech G310 Atlas Keyboard, generic headset mic/headphone jack, 4TB Seagate External Drive, 2 x Philips 24" Monitor, iPhone lightning phone cable, micro-USB phone cable. All are detached while troubleshooting.
Additional: have tried using different SATA cables and of course different PSU cables that came with each PSU.
Please ask questions as I am sure I have forgotten some of the tests I have done.
There is one thing I have not done: I have not performed a clean reinstall of Windows 10. It would be a fairly enormous pain but I may have to do it eventually just to rule it out. That being said; I have performed many many tests on the drives (each SSD) themselves for integrity, as well as SFC /scannow and a variety of other software integrity checks.
It's also worth noting that I have the luxury of time since the PC always boots up eventually since the issue is somewhat random. Sometime it just fails once, other times, multiple times in a row. Most in a row I have seen is 4 without BIOS workaround, 2 times with. The problem itself is hard to reproduce; basically I just have been switching a part then waiting to see if/when it occurs then give a long sigh.
At this point I have switched out every component and the issue still occurs.
