Hello,

Recently having some trouble with my PC. It would suddenly and randomly restart even at idle. It happens when I first turn on the computer in the day and tends to work fine after 2-3 restarts. Also sometimes I cannot turn the computer on at all - no power just dead, until I plug the power cable in and out and give it a rest it seems to work again. My specs are:

ASRock Z77 Extreme4
HAF 912 Advanced
SilverStone ST75F-P 750W PSU
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 OC 2GB Video Card
Intel i5 3570K
Samsug 840 Pro Series 256GB
Corsair Vengeance CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9R 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3
Samsung SH-224BB/BEBS 24x Internal SATA DVD Burner DriveR
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler
Windows 8
HDD Seagate Barracuda 2TB
Edifier M1550-BS-CH 5.1

Had computer for maybe 2 years now. Also got new 4k monitor but I doubt that is related. At idle all my temps seem to be fine.

Thanks for help,

Sounds like overheating CPU, if turning it off a while cures it. Have you checked the heatsink to make sure it's clean, and also that the cpu fan is functioning - visually?

Can you correlate anything in your system that has recently changed, or tie these symptoms to a software / OS update?

EDIT: Can you test your PSU? It sounds like one of those weird-assed situations just ripe for a faulty PSU too.

As far as I can see the CPU fan is working, its dusty so I may try cleaning it. It doesn't seem like overheating CPU as it restarts basically at idle, but runs fine when playing games. Also I cannot correlate it with software changes. How do I test my PSU?
