Hey everyone, hoping to get some help here.

Lately, my PC has been randomly shutting down and restarting while playing games like Dead Frontier 2 and Overwatch 2. The screen goes black, but the RAM lights stay on and the fans keep spinning. After a few seconds, it restarts itself without a BSOD.

Here are my specs:
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF
  • GPU: EVGA RTX 3060 12GB
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B450M DS3H
  • RAM: 16GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4-3200
  • PSU: Corsair CX550 (purchased mid-2020)
  • Storage:
    • Dying Seagate Barracuda 2TB HDD (current boot drive)
    • Mushkin Vortex LX 2TB SSD (secondary)
    • Samsung 990 Pro 4TB (not yet installed)
  • Case: Lian Li Lancool II Mesh
  • OS: Windows 10
What I’ve noticed:
  • Crashes happen only during gaming — never during idle or light tasks.
  • No overheating detected yet, but I’m in the process of setting up MSI Afterburner for monitoring.
  • I’m using an older CX550 PSU, which might be borderline for the RTX 3060.
  • I already submitted an RMA to Corsair just in case.
Could it be my GPU pulling too much power? Or the PSU starting to fail after years of use? Any advice on testing or narrowing down the issue would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Is this;

the PSU you're working with? If so, it's got a 5 year warranty period, you're cutting it close to the RMA window.

In order to rule out your PSU as the possible culprit, source(borrow, not buy) a reliably built PSU that can deliver 650W to your entire system and see if the issue persists. To add, the RTX 3000 series of GPU's were the one that were hit most with transient load spikes;

BIOS version for your motherboard?

Dying Seagate Barracuda 2TB HDD (current boot drive)
You should address this by migrating to a small capacity(500GB) SSD to have your OS, app's and launchers on.

Could be a psu issue and could be a ram issue try down locking ram to 2666 as that's the supported ram speed you may get away with 2900
