pc refresh and windows

There is option to refresh your pc without affecting your files and then is reset that removes all and need to install windows again. My computer has been crashing and running slow for some time and i think could this refresh help. If i refresh my pc without affecting files do i need to give windows key because when i bough this back in 2014 i didnt have money to buy windows and i used my friends key and it was fine but it always pops screen "activate windows" and that doesn't really bother me, and i dont have that windows key. Probably buying windows 10 later this year.

It might 'fix' the crashing, but it won't fix the activation popup.

I Know it doesnt fix the activation pop up but could make my pc faster.

Come back when you've bought and installed Windows 10 if that is what you intend to do soon.
It's against the rules to help with an installation that's been done with someone else's Product Key anyway as that effectively means your Windows is not genuine.
