Question PC restarts randomly in Windows ?

Hi. Relatively new PC, 6 months old.

This started happening about two months ago and has become more frequent. The mobo and ram sticks stay glowing but the GPU is the only thing that blinks when the computer restarts, which I assuming is normal. No BSOD usually, although I’ve been getting them recently.

I have no clue how to debug this.. Event logs only show the unexpected crash (Kernel-power 41). Any pointers would be appreciated.

My PC doesn't reboot when I’m in BIOS or the “repair windows” screen but reboots randomly when I'm in Windows/safe mode. (Crashes and reboots as if I've pressed "reboot" on my computer)

Currently I can’t even reinstall windows but I’ve wiped my ssd. I’m assuming it’s either the SSD or the CPU.

**Things I've tried:**
- OCCT
- Reseating RAM
- Swapped out PSU
- Clearing out CMOS using the CLR pins (works because it reset the bios settings)
- Turning off fast boot
- Changing some low-power settings in BIOS
- Updated bios to latest

**PC Specs:**
- CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X
- PSU: Corsair SF750
- GPU: 3080 FE
- RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR4 3600
- Mobo: B550I Aorus Pro Ax
- OS: Win11

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

How are you cooling the processor? As for your PSU, try and source(borrow, not buy) a reliably built PSU with a little more wattage(850W or higher)_ and see if you're able to power the system without a hitch when taxed.

Hi!

It’s being air cooled, and considering that it shuts off even in the log in screen I don’t think temp is the issue. Also wouldn’t it rule out the PSU if the PC has functioned fine for 4 months previous to this happening?

Mod Edit:
Any pointers to what I could do further to diagnose would be great!
I just ran the free version of the MemTest86 and it ran fine.

A forced upgrade to Windows 10 made my old pc start bluescreening, and served as the motivation to switch to Ubuntu Linux, which has been very stable. Just something to consider.
