Hey. My PC randomly shuts down while gaming. I bet my PSU can't handle the new GPU. (I had a 970, recently got a 1080ti)
My PSU is quite old and I'm running a lot of stuff of it. Two screens, 3 storage drives, a sound card, and a huge CPU cooler. I know I have to upgrade my Thermaltake SE 530W PSU. I can get a fairly new 1000W Corsair RM1000X for a low price. Should I get it even though I won't use its full power? I know it's an overkill but I can get it for cheaper than a lower powered PSU. Quite strangely the PC shuts off only while gaming. I've done a benchmark on 3DMark and it went through without a hitch. Should I do something else or just upgrade the PSU?
Thanks.
My specs are:

ASRock Z170 Pro 4S
i7 6700K OC@4.4GHz
AORUS GTX 1080Ti

16GB Ballistix RAM
Thermaltake SE 530W

Solution
There is a drastic difference for power requirements from a GTX970 vs GTX1080ti. A good 530W PSU when new would be borderline at best. And the Thermaltake SE 530W PS is only rated for 38Amps on the 12 volt lines which really not adequate for a GTX1080ti.
