cpu is an amd phenom x4 9600
Hello everyone, I am having troubles with an old computer that i received from a friend a few months ago. It's a rather old pc, but I still would like to get use out of it.
Thinking about converting it into a htpc perhaps.
Anyways, the problem lies that when I turn it on, it's just stuck at a black screen. I have pulled the cmos battery out, waited a few seconds, reset the cmos to default by moving the jumper between the pins, both nothing. tested with various power supplies including a new one that i just bought for my wife's future build. regardless of psu, nothing.
Most recent attempt to fix- Removed all components except psu, cpu, and motherboard. When starting up, gives one long beep followed by two short beeps. After some digging around google, found that for asus boards, that this means that no ram was detected.
Also, for longest time, I didn't realize that the board given to me didn't have a speaker to listen for POST beeps. So, for longest time thought the board was completely dead. So I dug up an extra speaker that i had laying around, and that is how i got the beeps indicating no ram.
Well, now i'm back to square one. I put the ram and hdd back in the pc, fired it up. No beeps now, just silence.
wth is wrong with this pc?!
-sigh-
any help is appreciated
