PC stuck on Windows 10 loading screen (from HDD and USB)

I recently installed a "feature update" for windows 10, then force restarted it as it was unresponsive. After restart, I was stuck on the windows logo loading screen (with the revolving dots). A couple of restarts later it boots into automatic repair which leads to a black screen. I tried reinstalling windows from a USB installation (that works fine on other computers), it loads to a blue screen and gets stuck there (an installation window should appear to ask for language but never does). I loaded the HDD into another computer, it booted up just fine. It seems there might be a problem with the motherboard (Gigabyte ga-z170-hd3), but I reset and updated the bios and the problem still happens (the bios settings load just fine too) . Can you suggest anything to try?

It's your Master Boot Record (MBR) this is the component which loads you from your pre-OS environment (BIOS) into Windows. So if you're having an issue with getting into Windows, but not an issue with the BIOS; that leaves the MBR.

Repairing the MBR can be done one of two ways. One is that you reset it, the other being that you do a clean install of the OS. Which will replace it outright. What you have to do depends on the damage done. Try resetting first, if that doesn't work, do the clean install of the OS.

Once you're back up and running, you'll want to run a backup of the OS in case this happens again. Free tools like Rollback Rx or Macrium Reflect work great.
