Hi, i recently purchased a HDMI cable as i would like to watch streams from my desktop on my samsung tv. but when i connect the HDMI cable from my desktop to my tv, my desktop would be able to detect the samsung tv and i adjust it to duplicate screen, but on my samsung tv, it cant seem to detect the HDMI cable.

Iv'e tried the HDMI cable with my asus laptop and there is no problem i can project the screen onto my tv, but i cant seem to do the same with my desktop.

Can anyone help me on this?

Specs:
Hp Pavilion Elite HPE-478d ( ATI Radeon graphics card (ATI Radeon HD 5570) Graphics card is up-to-date AMD Catalyst 12.4)
Samsung tv (model - UA40ES5500M )

hmm, yea just read through and tried, my tv is still not detecting the the hdmi cable connection to my desktop. when i plug in both sides, my desktop can set the tv as a monitor, but my tv cannot detect the cable at all, when i plug in and choose the hdmi port for the tv, it say no device connected.

the problem now is, for my laptop, it works fine without a problem with the same cable, but for my desktop im having problems. i tried all the 3 ports in my tv but non can detect my desktop. (Problem with my tv is, its abit too smart . . . i cant go into the hdmi channel if they cannot detect any device in the port. . . )

Check your HDMI Version , though it usually is backwards compatible ,but lets check that first.
Have you purhcased your laptop before or after you build your desktop.
M thinking its the drivers issue. Also update your gfx card drivers , i have 13.10 right now on my Gfx card , check if an upgrade solves the issue.

There are HDMI version like 1.3 , 1.4 and so on...
I believe your desktop as you had said is older than the laptop , so its HDMI version depending on your gfx card would be different.
You can do 1 thing , borrow someone's monitor which has a HDMI connection , and HDMI Input actually , (most monitors have that nowadays)
Then connect your desktop PC to that monitor Via HDMI , if that works then Your TV is having problems detecting the PC over HDMI.
See if you can do this and report back.

So are you able to detect the Monitor when its connected via HDMI to your PC ?
If so , then it becomes a problem of your TV.

hmm alright, but the funny thing is when i connect my laptop to the tv via the same hdmi cable, my tv can detect it ~_~ super confused!!!! but thx btw ! i already emailed samsung

What i think or believe is that your TV i having some problems detecting HDMI from devices.
Laptop is also connected thru HDMI to my TV , and it works well.
Also my Desktop is , but my TV is pretty old is from 2011 , still its able to detect , so yes u can think of the TV now , it could be a problem !
