PC to tv scaling issues?

I just received my lenovo y510p laptop the other day and I have been experimenting with what it can do. Today I just decided to hook it up via HDMI to my 60in mitsubishi flat screen to watch some Netflix. When I hooked it up and everything and entered HDMI 2 on the TV everything showed up and everything looked fine and dandy until I noticed that all 4 sides of the screen were cutoff. It looked fine on my laptop, but it was like it was outputting a bigger display to the TV. I started messing around with the resolution in such, but nothing really helped. When I right click on the desktop and go into screen resolution it says there is a second display and that it's connected to a mitsubishi TV, but I cannot change the resolution or anything. I do have the option of displaying to a second screen, continuing the display, show on desktop 1, or show on desktop 2. So how can I scale it properly? Is it simply to big of a TV for this? Because it would sure be nice to play some surgeon simulator in my living room with my friends watching. 😀

BTW I have a 750M SLI GPU. Would disabling SLI help?

Solution
If not, The video card tends to have an option in its control panel as well(Adjust Desktop Size And Position -> Size in the Nvidia Control Panel).

Yup. I went into the nvidia control panel, and went down to adjust desktop size and position, clicked on the size tab, and clicked "resize". It let me resize it by width and height. Woo!
