Alright, I'll et straight to it, today after coming back from the gym I walk into the house and smell a funky electrical burnt smell, realizing that my fuses have popped i flip em back on to get power back on in the house, but nothing happens. I investigate the issue and turn the power strip off which connects to my PC and other components. Go back out to flip the fuse box again, power is back on, i go turn the power strip back on, power goes out. So I rehearse what I did to get power back on in the house. I unplug my desktop from power strip, go to a different room and wall plug. I have my psu power switched off, plug in my power cord to PSU and wall plug, then switch psu switch to on, power goes off in that room.

I assume that my PSU is done for at this point and along with all my hardware. Anyone have any experience with this? If so what are the chances that it's just my PSU that's screwed?

System specs

i5 4690k
ASUS GTX 1070
MSI z-97 gaming
EVGA 850w 80+ gold
16gb ram

Solution
Not totally clear, but sounds like you eliminated the power bar from the equation, and hooked PC directly to the wall outlet in another room (be sure it's a different circuit than the other room/different breaker). If so, then the PSU is looking VERY suspicious. Most PC shops can test the PSU for you, often for free.

Solution
Yeah cause I tried powering it on without the power strip and it was doing the same thing. Cause I thought at first maybe it was the power strip, but when I plugged PC straight up in wall socket (a separate one) it did same thing to the room and shut the power down. Thing is I just bought this PSU from newegg so I'm within the 30 day return period. I am praying it didn't fry my hardware.

That's a nice system you have. Please post the results of the problem when you know.
Also, just for shits and giggles, try a different power cord to the PSU from the wall if you have one.
Not likely that it's shorted out, but not impossible.

Yeah I will definitely let you all know how it goes, I returned it to newegg and am receiving a new one. fingers crossed!

The PSU is the EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2-0850-XR 80+ Gold ECO Mode I.
