Question PC Turns On for a Split Second, Turns Off

Hey all, just got finished upgrading my system with a new motherboard (ASUS B550 A Pro) and a new CPU (R7 5700x) and all went well during the building process. After I turned it on for the first time, everything would light up for like a split second, including the CPU light on the debug section of the motherboard. This is a brand new CPU chip, literally just got it and opened it today. The system will then do nothing when I press the power button, until I take the plug out of the power supply and replug it in. I am using a stock Wraith Prism cooler with the CPU, and have taken off the fan to ensure the correct amount of thermal paste is applied. I put the chip in with no issues, and don't know what else to check/do. I have breadboarded the setup, only having the CPU fan, 24pin, and 8pin CPU connector plugged in but still no dice. I'm leaning towards motherboard or PSU but not sure to this point. Thanks.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. Which slot(s) are/is the ram populating on the motherboard?

Hey, sorry for forgetting to include the parts list. Here it is below-

Ryzen 7 5700x (brand new)
MSI B550 Pro-A (Used but new in my build)
EVGA GTX 1070
600W Thermal Take PSU
I don't have my SSD's or monitors plugged in at this point while I test the main components.

make sure your bios is update or it wont post you may need a previous cpu from the 3000 series

remove the battery in the motherboard for a minute then put the battery back in to clear any old settings in the bios.
if this fails check manual and reset the pins for cmos

these boards where released before the 5000 series was released so the are not supported right out of the box.

considering you said this board isnt new and used is why i said to reset the bios as old settings from previous chips or overclocks can hamper posts.

any new hardware in future be it ram or cpu make sure bios is set to default this will prevent any issues.

I tried loading a compatible BIOS onto a USB and flashed using the flash button on the back of the board, but didn't have any success. Maybe I did something wrong, but I'm not sure. I also am unsure of how to reset the BIOS

page 25 in manual
jbat1 is your clear cmos youll need a screw driver or paper clip to jump your pins

no problem glad to be of help in the manual the full instructions for clear cmos is page 38 but the videos should be fine as well.

hope it works out if not just update this and we can try other trouble shoot methods.
I've read some stuff online about using as cheap a flash drive as possible might work, as the flashback function doesn't like to take certain USB makes/brands etc, so I'm going to try that last before just calling the mobo DOA.

Edit- Now that I think about it, it could be the PSU. The flash bios will blink for a few seconds, then it seems like it's trying to turn the system on and at that point everything just stops. I'm not sure though, as I had been using this exact PSU with no problems for quite some time now, about 3 years, so I'm not sure what to think.

the only thing you should have installed when posting is

gpu
cpu with cooler
ram in slot 2 only
motherboard
make sure hdmi is plugged into gpu and monitor

no hardrives or ssds as this can prevent the motherboard booting up.

if you have your old cpu on hand you can put that one back in and see if it boots up

give it a few minutes to boot as it while cycle between 2-3 times e.g stop and start.

also it should be noted that major changes of cpu and motherboard can lock you out of windows on your hardrive as it will be looking for the following

drivers from the previous motherboard and the cpu. this is why i say to make sure no drives are installed.

yeah right now i have literally nothing plugged in for the BIOS flashback, only things connected on my board right now are the power cables for the motherboard.

yep but in order for the board to post now you need to install the cpu and cooler and gpu to see if its accepted the new cpu and ram in slot 2. and a monitor.

if you did everything correctly it will post.
but I'm not sure if it even got through the flashing process as necessary. Should I test anyways?

if its flashed correctly in the video it said like 5 minutes or so it takes but in my opinion 2 to 3 minutes is enough these files are only a few mb so it wont take long to write to the bios i would test anyway worst case it doesnt turn on it wont harm the hardware.
well thats the problem, the flash BIOS button will only blink/light up for 5-15 seconds before going completely out. It also seems as if it's trying to turn on the board but it is failing. I can post a video if that would make it easier.

it cant turn on the board if it has no cpu ( cpu is the brain of the board the sudden life is its just flashing the bios.)

you can post a video if you like.

also make sure the only file on the usb is the bios

make sure you unzip the file open the folder

file name should be E7C56AMS.AF0 and it should be 32.768 kb in size

well everything I read online said the BIOS can be flashed with no installed on the board, so I was trying to make sure the BIOS was dome updating before I go back to installing everything again.

id double check the flash drive make sure the correct file is on it if its not taking at least 2-5 minutes after the flashing of the rom

and yes you can flash the bios without the cpu but you still need a cpu and gpu and ram to actually see if it worked or not.
