I finished building my new PC but when I turn it on, it doesn't connect to my monitor and automatically shuts down after about 18 seconds. It then restarts again doing the same thing over and over. I have already deconstructed the PC to only be using the CPU, Motherboard, and PSU and the problem is still occurring. Here are the specs of the remaining components:

  • CPU: intel core i7 6700k
    Motherboard: Gigabyte z170x gaming 5
    PSU: EVGA Supernova 650 G2
Is there any way of determining which part is the cause of the problem without interchanging parts because this is my first build and I don't have any spares.

Wow, I just think I found the problem myself. The RAM I was testing must've not been in all the way because when I took them out and put them back in, they work. Before the BIOS wasn't coming up on screen and the debug LED was giving me the code of "Memory Installation Error" which now makes sense. I just scared myself because whenever I looked that up, all the answers were concluded as the motherboard being bad. Thanks for the replies though guys, hopefully this will be the end of my struggles.
Double check that you have all of the PSU/motherboard cables connected (24 pin and the 8 pin connector). Also make sure that the 8 pin you have connected is for the CPU, not for the GPU.

Does it complete POST alright?
