You've probably seen this question around a lot, but maybe I get some different answers. I have a Z97 mobo, with a i7 4790K and GTX 970. When I first built everything, and I turned on the computer everything worked fine. I really loved the performance, but having not used a PC in a while (and some past traumas regarding cooling), long story short I got a Corsair H100i GTX cooling system. I assemble everything (putting it in the case was a bitch) I turn on the PC and everything lights up inside, all the fans start spinning and the Corsair logo lights up on the pump. I swear I even hear water move. At this point I haven't even connected it to my screen, I'm just letting it run. And it stays like that, but when I plug in a HDMI nothing happens. The screen is black.

Now I did somethings before I came here for help. Basic things, but still... I tested it with the RAM sticks in all different positions, I made sure they were in alright. Did same with the GPU, but haven't tried posting yet without it. Should I? Also I reapplied the paste, and made sure it was spread evenly. I made sure the pump itself was connected to CPU_FAN and not OPS. Also this version of the H100i doesn't have a SATA power connection that runs to the PSU. Actually there is nothing that runs to the PSU. So can I do? Especially what can I do before I remove the cooler again, and try it with the old heatsink?

Cheers,
Aleks

Nope the mobo. I thought that would make sense. Also as a note, I took of one of the sides of the case and looked at the insides as I turned the computer on. The GPU fans turn on, but then off after a bit. I never really looked into the case during booting, is that normal?

Yes it is normal for the fans to spin down on a new GTX 970 graphics card.
The auto settings set in the bios of the graphics card only turn the fans on when the GPU core of the card reaches about 60c.

But if it worries you, then you can set a manual fan profile so the fans on the card start to spin at a lower GPU core temperature if you wish.

If you did not factory reset your bios in any way.
And set in the bios the option for the Pci-e graphics card slot to be the primary display output device.
Then you should connect the video lead or Hdmi lead to the GTX 970 graphics card.

You only connect the monitor video lead to the on board motherboard video output ports if setting the board up for the first time with a Pci-e based graphics card in the system.

As by factory default settings the interface mode for graphics is output is set to the motherboard.
Or resets to it if you perform a factory reset of the bios via the motherboard bios reset pins.

If you have done none of these, as said video signal to the monitor will come from the GTX 970 card still.
