[SOLVED] PC under performing in games

Hello! I have a PC that is about 2 years old now and has seen a couple upgrades over the time, and it is still a pretty kick-ass machine. The parts are an MSI Gaming X Trio 1080Ti, i7 7700, 16gb of Corsair vengeance DDR4 RAM, a small SSD for booting and a 2TB drive for mass storage. However, in some games I find my system to be underperforming quite significantly. For example: Battlefield 5 in 1080p on ultra struggles to get 60 FPS and occasionally dips into low 40's. I have checked V-Sync, and it's off. Either way, I have a 144HZ monitor. Fortnite is also a culprit, as on full epic settings it fluctuates between 100+ and 60FPS. Any ideas why this is happening, and any solutions? Thanks!

I think the 60 fps in B5 at ultra sounds about right for a 1080ti/7700 (what resolution by the way)?

But I'm not 100% sure, what are other folks with 1080ti's getting in B5? Have you checked around in the forums for the game? Or looked at reviews of B5 with a 1080ti (most reviews will list framerates etc.)

I've seen a few YouTube posts and stuff on even older CPUs like 2600k's getting 90+. I'm running 1080p with resolution scale set to 100%. And, even then, Fortnite is something I'm a bit concerned about. While I hardly play it, a game like that having so-so performance can't bode well!

If you are only experiencing what you call "underperformance" in SOME games, but others are performing as expected, that will be more of a software/configuration/settings issue than a hardware issue (most of the time).

Are those other folks running with "Ultra" settings? Did they (or you) customize any of the Ultra settings (like everything except shadows set to Ultra)?

Yep, they're running ultra. I tried customised, ultra, high and there was little to no difference unfortunately. It's the same story with battlefield 1, but less drastic. I don't play many other games so it's hard to tell if it's just those few.
