Hey!

I am currently been trying to run Ark Survival Ascended but have hit the "obvious" road bump in the form of a lot of lag issue and generally completely unplayable. So I think its about time my PC got a bit of an upgrade.

My current Build is;

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7500 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.40 GHz
Motherboard: Asus Strix B250H GAMING
Memory: G Skill 8GB x 2
Corsair 8GB x 2

Video Card: MSI GeForce RTX 4060 VENTUS 2X BLACK 8G OC Gaming Graphics Card - 8GB GDDR6X, PCI Express Gen 4, 128-bit, 3x DP v 1.4a, HDMI 2.1a
Power Supply: 450W Corsair VS

Approximate Purchase Date: ASAP

Budget Range: All in (purchase and shipping) £500 - £750

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming - Watching Youtube/Movies - General life work

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: CPU, Motherboard, Ram, PSU

Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Whichever gives the cheapest option while also being a safe place to purchase from

Location: United Kingdom, England

Parts Preferences: no real preference just as long as its all compatible and works like a Gem

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments: Tend to mainly play Ark Survival Evolved but want to play the new Ascended version and currently its unplayable with my specs

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Current System needs to get up with the times of next gen gaming!

Have ample SSD drives and case is mid tower so big enough I would think. Also have enough cooling fans.

Any help from experts would be greatly appreciated. Currently unsure of a budget but would like to mainly know which parts need the upgrade and what potentially cheapest options they could be!

Many thanks in advance

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Please stylize your thread with info asked of in this thread;
and the community can chime in with suggestions. You will need to include your location, your budget(with an amount) and your preferred site for purchase. Is your upgrade going to be solely for playing Ark Survival Ascended?

Off the bat, that PSU is something I wouldn't keep. You have 2 sets of ram kits from two different brands. Mind sharing a link to both of them? Out of curiosity, what GPU were you on prior to the RTX4060? Please add the make and model of your case as well.

Hey, Thanks for the speedy reply. Apologies for posting in the wrong format. I will amend it as we speak. Mainly Ark Ascended but potential future games
Currently I am struggling in finding the links for the ram. I only know that it is 2 8GB GSkill Ripjaws DDR3 and 2 8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3. Previous GPU was GTX1060 .... Old XD
The Case again I am not sure and am struggling to find it as it came from PC Specialist but this is around 7 years ago!!!

Hi logainofhades. Thanks for your reply.
I do not live near a Micro Center. I should have mentioned I am in the UK. And Budget is around £500 - £750 for the parts needed. Cheaper would be best obviously!

As you have DDR3, you will need ram too. I would consider AM5, so you have future upgrade options.

Personally, I do not believe you should buy a new graphics card before you get a new CPU and its corresponding platform. The below is what I would consider the minimum buy in for a modern platform. You could spend more on the CPU up to a 9700x but that be close to your max budget.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 8500G 4.1 GHz 6-Core Processor (£127.00 @ Amazon UK)
CPU Cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit SE 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler (£35.00 @ Computer Orbit)
Motherboard: MSI B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard (£139.00 @ Computer Orbit)
Memory: G.Skill Flare X5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory (£105.47 @ Amazon UK)
Power Supply: MSI MAG A750GL PCIE5 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (£79.00 @ Computer Orbit)

With your choices above I would make these slight changes for various reasons. The Phantom Spirit is an even better version of the same CPU cooler and slightly cheaper. No change to the motherboard, PSU, and the CPU is fine. Change the RAM over to the G Skill Flare kit because it has an EXPO profile specifically made for AMD CPUs so you will experience guaranteed compatibility out of the box. I have heard that the Corsair vengeance kits have been having issues on occasion with AMD CPUs. The Western Digital Black SN770 is about the same price as the Crucial P3 Plus but a bit faster. If you need additional fans for the case I highly recommend the Arctic Freezer P12s in all sizes.
