Hello everyone i would like to ask for your help

i am looking to upgrade my desktop and i am an ultra- noob

current set up
CPU:Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770k CPU @ 3.5GHz
GPU: NVDIA GeForce GTX770
RAM: DDR3 2 x4GB DRAM freq:666.3MHZ
MOTHERBOARD: MAXIMUS VII FORMULA
POWER SUPPLY:750W Chieftec
COOLING: Corsair H Hydro cooling
SSD : 2 x512GB 2 x HDD 500GB
CASE: Corsair Special Edition White Graphite Series™ 600T Mid-Tower Case
A little backroound:

-playing games mostly FPS like ARMA 3/COD/ and some racing simulators like AC (even when my pc was handling shadows/blurs/effects i am the type of guy disabling all fancy stuff)
-using Ableton for music production
-multi-media usage
that's pretty much what i am doing.
I want to upgrade because i feel my pc is dying in terms of fps performance.

Budget:600-800 Euros

In which components should i invest money in your opinion ?

Well without any knowledge i feel that i need to increase my ram and change GPU
but do you think it's worthy to make these upgrades on my current motherboard?

Please if you you have any specific part to recommend would be appreciated because i have no
idea what's going on.

Thank you guys !

I couldn't tell what specific part, DDR3 2 x4GB DRAM freq:666.3MHZ, is without a brand name and part number or a link to it.

Core i7-4770K
Supported memory: DDR3-1333, DDR3-1600

Overclocking with Intel "k" model processors allows use of memory speeds higher than 1600MHz.

Depending on what memory you use, it may be necessary to enable XMP profiles in BIOS if you want to run memory at tested speeds.

Your memory choice seems to be "slow" for a i7-4770K processor.

I agree with overclocking your 4770K as it's still a good CPU by today's standards. I would use your budget for a PSU & GPU upgrade.

16gb (2x8gb) is recommended for today's games.

Some games are graphics limited like fast action shooters.
Others are cpu core speed limited like strategy, sims, and mmo.
Multiplayer tends to like many threads.

You need to find out which.
------------------------------------------------------------
To help clarify your CPU/GPU options, run these two tests:

a) Run YOUR games, but lower your resolution and eye candy.
If your FPS increases, it indicates that your cpu is strong enough to drive a better graphics configuration.
If your FPS stays the same, you are likely more cpu limited.

b) Limit your cpu, either by reducing the OC, or, in windows power management, limit the maximum cpu% to something like 70%.
Go to control panel/power options/change plan settings/change advanced power settings/processor power management/maximum processor state/
This will simulate what a lack of cpu power will do.
Conversely what a 30% improvement in core speed might do.

You should also experiment with removing one or more cores/threads. You can do this in the windows msconfig boot advanced options option.
You will need to reboot for the change to take effect. Set the number of threads to less than you have.
This will tell you how sensitive your games are to the benefits of many threads.
If you see little difference, your game does not need all the threads you have.

It is possible that both tests are positive, indicating that you have a well balanced system,
and both cpu and gpu need to be upgraded to get better gaming FPS.
-------------------------------------------------------------

4770K is still a very competent processor.
If you think you need a cpu boost, overclock the 4770K. You can get some 20% better performance.

If you want even more cpu, you are looking not only at a cpu change, but also a motherboard changes as well as ddr4 ram.
Look at ryzen 2700 or intel 9600K or 9700K

For fast action games, a graphics upgrade might be in order. Perhaps to a GTX1070/GTX1080 class card.

On ram, yes, a 2 x 8gb kit is in order.
I would not do that using ddr3 ram if you are planning on a cpu upgrade.

It is easiest to upgrade a graphics card first. It will be easily transported to a new cpu platform.

Thank you for your answer.

My ram is
Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB Single DDR3 1333 MT/s (PC3-10600) CL9 @1.5V UDIMM 240-Pin Memory BLS4G3D1339DS1S00

Thank you for your answer this is helpful !

you got a solid setup. can easily use it for 2 more years with low shadow+ high texture
and you will need new CPU+motherboard+GPU+ram, cooler, case, ssd+hdd and PSU could be reused (so you can switch to AMD too)

just wait couple of months until new intel and amd chips are out, both will have a significant improvements over current lineup(worth the wait)
AMD is do out preform intel in workloads while gaming, intel is only good for gaming.
may b AMD get better than intel in games too or intel catchup with AMD

building a system at this time of year is just not worth it. at most you can get a new GPU right now.. and save more for rest of the stuff

faster Ram is another option but you wouldnt be able to reuse it in later build so think before you get ram.

Thank you for your answer.

Test A is already made in couple of games and is positive.
Everytime i lower effects/shadows/ depth of field i get more FPS.[even in new games like Black Ops 4]

I will try test B now.

I think changing GPU first it's the easiest and more wise upgrade based on what you are telling me guys.
Thank you for your time!

Thank you for your answer.

This is a 2015 build for the record.(my brother's choice)

I see what you mean!
forgot to mention case is : Corsair Special Edition White Graphite Series™ 600T Mid-Tower Case.
Do you have any suggestion for GPU?
Thank you

-GPU well with 600-800 euro budget. RTX2060 or gtx1070, u still will have enough to get i5 or ryzen5 and motherboard.
- for now you can get a GPU and put it in your system see if you get some improvements, and you can look for Ram on ebay get used DDR3 1333mhz non fancy ones could be found for low prices.. anything is better than 666mhz 😛
but dont spend too much on ram, you cant reuse them.
