Pc upgrade without bottleneck?

Hello everyone
I bought my PC around two and a half years ago and it was great, and now it is time to upgrade.
I havent been up to date with the new GPU and CPU releases and I need your help to see my options about a new CPU and GPU upgrades.
My specs are:
-Motherboard:Gigabyte 990XA-UD3 (AM3+)
-CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 (3.2Ghz)
-GPU: Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 6870 1G
-Power supply: Corsair TX650w
-RAM (2x2)GB Apacer DDR3-1333

I have a mid-tier budget i would say around 400-450$ max to spend.
Any suggestions are welcome

Should I remove my RAM's if i get new ones ?
