PC used to game well(Minecraft) But runs minecraft terribly now!!

So in not very good at computers yet so please be slow!

Problem:

So i got my pc a year and a half ago, and i used to be able to run minecraft pretty great (at about 45 fps smooth/12 chunks). But after many updates and new launchers, i can barely play the game without getting extreme lag. Also my pc says im running the game at about 80 fps but i still lag really bad.


*I put the graphics on the lowest they can go!
*Installed optifine
*V-sync does not work(lags bad at 60 fps)

My Specs:

Cpu= Intel Pentium E5400
Mobd=AsusTek CG5270
RAM=4gbs(DDR2)
Graphics card= Nividia Geforce GT 610
OS= Windows 7 (64 bit)

There are way to many factors that can cause degraded performance.. sometimes it takes longer to find and pinpoint the problem you need to fix than starting fresh.. I complete re-install is something I resort to when I don't wanna spend the time figuring something out...

However what you can try is the following:
1. Disable any unneeded startup programs
2. Run disk cleanup utility to delete temporary and junk files
3. Uninstall your graphics card drivers and Install the latest version for you graphics card
4. Uninstall minecraft (backup your saves) then do a fresh install

Also clean the dust out of your heatsinks and fans inside the computer to make sure it doesn't overheat.
This should help restore the lost performance... if it doesn't something deeper could be causing the issue and a compete re-install might be the only solution.
