I've been primarily a PC gamer so I'm probably not one to comment
sufficiently on this sort of debate. But hey, that's never stopped me
from blabbing away before *g* so here goes...
I've owned and played numerous consoles over time, some longer than
others. But what I most remember about console gaming is that the
games tend to be more stable, more user-friendly, and less upgradable
than PC titles. They also don't have alot of features/additions that
PC titles have.
Also I think console gaming is a more casual experience than PC
gaming. With PC gaming you usually have alot of settings
(keyboard/mouse control, resolution, graphical and sound settings)
which you can/must configure for optimal play.
This *can* lead to a more immersive experience for some people.
Another reason I favor the PC over any console is that with the PC,
even though I can upgrade for the newest and latest graphic-whoring
games, my machine will always be mostly compatible to the oldest PC
games. So if I want to play a title I didn't get around to playing
when it wa released its not much of a bother to install it and load it
up.
I also find that with emulation (Be it console, arcade and computer) I
can maintain most of my gaming interests over multiple platforms on
the same machine.
I'm not knocking consoles, but I suppose I've always conidered the
console industry a bit of a vampire. They bled the arcade industry to
death and now they're trying the same thing with the PC gaming
industry with the likes of Xbox and PS2.
It'll be interesting to see how they fare I think. Personally I'll
never trade my PC, with the largest gaming library of any gaming
system in history, for a console that'll be replaced, broken or fallen
into disuse within a few years.
