[SOLVED] PC will not boot with second stick of 8gb ram installed

So I have a HP pavilion 500 (I know old computer) that has been working great for me for years. It originally came with 4gb of ram and I just recently decided to upgrade it to 16.

All the research I've done shows that the PC should be compatible with up to 16gb of ram as long as windows 10 (current operating system) is running at 64 bit.

Once I installed the the 2 sticks of ram, the computer booted but stalled on "preparing automatic repair" at times and other times just got stuck on the load screen, never going to windows.

If I remove one stick from the mother board (leaving 8gb) it works just just fine.

If I go in the BIOS (system information) before booting (with both sticks installed, 16gb) it shows the dual channels and recognizes both sticks, but refuses to boot when it goes forward.

What can I do to make all 16 gbs work in this computer?

Any help would be great

Thanks.

Mix and match RAM is always a gamble. The two sticks of RAM may have different memory timings or even different voltages. Adding random RAM to a second random RAM stick has no guarantee of working as a set. This is why manufacturers sell matched sets of RAM. With an HP, there is very little in the BIOS to allow tweaking RAM.

The technical description I looked up for an HP Pavilion 500 showed it came with 8GB. So maybe I didn't have your correct model. What is the full model number of your PC?
