Pc won't boot after installing m.2 ssd

I recently bought a new samsung 970 evo plus 500gb and I don't have an m.2 slot so I used a lycom-dt 120 pcie to m.2 adapter to install it. When it is installed the pc won't switch on but when I take it out everything runs fine. Please can someone help thanks very much

What motherboard?

Many older motherboards won't boot NVMe SSDs from a PCIe adapter. (From my experience anything pre Z170 days, and even several Z170 boards will not work).

Thanks for the help but I refunded it. However out of interest my motherboard is a GATEWAY dt 71 but is strange because I can't find it's serial number or anything about it on the internet so believe that it must b3 very old
