PC won't boot after shutting down mid game. Now only turns on for a split second.

Hi everyone, I know this kind of thread has been posted a few times, but I still can't find a working solution, so I'd thought I post my specifics.

Basically, my PC shut down while playing a pretty light game in terms of power usage, and when I'd try and turn it on, only the led's and fans would turn on for a split second.

I tried taking all my parts out and testing each one to see if they all worked, and everything was okay until I reseated my cpu. This lead me to believe that was the problem, so I just got a new one delivered today under warranty. I installed the new one, but it's still giving me the exact same problem.

Could is just be that my motherboard or psu are screwed? I haven't done anything to them since I first built my PC in early January, so I have no clue why this is happening after 5 months.

Specs:

i5 4690K
MSI GTX 1060 6GB
EVGA 650w psu
16GB of G.Skill Ripjaws Ram
MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Mobo

Temps have been stable at around 24 when just browsing and around 50ish when gaming.

Thanks for taking the time to help, I appreciate it. Let me know if there's any other info I can provide.

It would be awesome if you could try all the components on a working PC. That way you could determine exactly which component is faulty. Have you tried the basic run, like only CPU, 1 stick of RAM, HDD and with the onboard video? Does it boot like that?

First of all, thank you very much for the reply! I don't actually have any spare parts I can put together to test, and as far as I know, none of my friends have their own PC builds to help me test out parts.

I just tried what you said, and I'm getting the same problem. I've bought a new motherboard, and I'm going to send my current one in for RMA. The only thing to try after that is the psu I guess, which hopefully isn't the problem, since it seems like it works fine when everything except the cpu is in. I also hope I haven't bricked anything in the process of testing all this stuff out lol.

I hope the problem is fixed with the new motherboard. :) if not, you should check your cpu for bent pins. I had a motherboard problem a few weeks ago and thought it was the gpu. Tried to fix gpu i ended up popping the condensers and in the tryouts when I wanted to take the cooler off the cpu, it was so stuck to it that the cpu came out of the socket and two pins ended up being bent.

So turns out it was my motherboard. PC is now fully functional! Thanks again for your reply!

So I ended up buying a new motherboard because I didn't really want to wait a month or so for the RMA. No issues whatsoever now.

I don't know if this was the exact problem, but I was still using the stock heatsink intel packages with the i5 4690K. That was probably pretty stupid to be running with that while playing games like The Witcher 3 for hours at a time. Bought a Coolermaster 212, so hopefully nothing gets overheated/destroyed now!

Thanks for the replies!
