I tried to apply thermal paste to my cpu and now the dram light of my motherboard constantly shows when i try to turn on the pc. The motherboard has lighting, the fans and the ram light up but i cant update my bios through the bios flashback feature cuz the bios light won't even turn on when the button is pressed.

Specs:
Mb - asus rog strix b550f- wifi
Cpu - ryzen 5 5600x
gpu - rtx 3060 evga xc
ssd - samsung 2tb

Psu- SeaSonic FOCUS Plus Platinum 750 W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

Ssd- Samsung 870 QVO 2 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive

Ram - Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro SL 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory

You're right bios might not even be the issue. The ram rgb turns on but the pc is still stuck on dram light at start up.

i believe i tightened the air cooler too tightly on the cpu. which makes sense as to why the dram light turns on. i just have to buy a new cpu. I can probably keep the mb assuming the tightness of the cpu cooler didn't stress it out. You helped me debug this thing a lot. I had completely lost faith, and yet you were still patient. Thank you so much.

No worries. These things can be very frustrating when they happen and it often just a process of elimination.

Just for my own benefit, how are you sure it is the CPU that is the issue? The CPU is one of the more durable components (except the pins) and I just want to be sure so that no money is wasted.

In an ideal world you would try another cpu in the motherboard to test and/or try your CPU in another motherboard. Is this an option?

Also what CPU cooler do you have just so we know?

When i try to turn on the pc the lights start to flicker on and off now + the dram light being triggered after thermal paste application. i have the stock cooler for the ryzen 5 5600x, and screwing it in always seems to be a hastle. i believe i screwed it in too tight this time. i cant test a diff cpu or a different mb i only have 1 of each.

Sorry for the delay in coming back to you.

Can you video the problem and upload so we can see the flickering of the lights?
