Hi everyone, it's my second time posting here. I've got a PC issue that's thoroughly confusing me. Hoping to get some advice.

I've got a PC that has worked great up until about 2 weeks ago. I went to boot my PC up one morning and I heard a small crackle and pop, followed by a sort of burnt plastic smell. Attempts to boot after this resulted in the fans and lights coming on for only a moment, then going back off immediately. After disassembling the PC, I found my ASUS mobo had blown either a transistor or a capacitor, as there was a small burn spot on the MOBO, and the capacitors surrounding this area also had black soot on them. I assumed this mobo was essentially dead, so i ordered a new one. It was hard to come by a mobo with an am3+ socket for my FX 8350 cpu in any store, so I ordered the Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 R2 from Amazon.

After installing the new board, when I boot the PC, the fans and lights turn on, including the lights on the Corsair H80i Liquid cooler and remain working as if the PC has booted. Problem is, i get no video on the monitor. I tried swapping from the DVI, to display port, to HDMI. .nothing. I thought maybe the graphics card is bad, so i removed it, and connected to the video out ports on the mobo its self. Still no signal on the monitor using any different cable. So, next i tried booting with one ram stick at a time, then no ram, got nothing, connected the cd drive, hdd, via sata one by one, until i tried with no sata connections at all, still nothing. Next I thought maybe the power supply could be bad, so I swapped my PSU out with a PSU from another working PC with the difference being instead of 650W, it's a 600W. After swapping to the PSU I know for a fact is fine, I expected to achieve the exact same results, if not actually getting video, however, this isn't what happened.

So with the other PSU that I know works is in place, the case fans and lights come on for a moment, but then all go off immediately, however the lights on the corsair h80i do not turn on at all though. If i just disconnect the sata from the H80i and attempt to boot, then I get no lights on the H80i expectedly, but the case fans and lights do remain working. I find it super odd that I seemingly get less operation out of this thing when I switch to the PSU which I know works.

I think it's possible the motherboard i received is just bad. .UPS delivered it and dropped it on the front porch as if it were made of rubber. . also when i opened the Amazon box, the cardboard Mobo box was not wrapped in plastic, and was not sealed with tape, or a sticker, or anything at all, so it's possible i got shipped a previously returned motherboard or one that at the very least had been opened previously. I just don't feel confident that the problem is actually the board since I get two different results when swapping the PSU... any suggestions/comments would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Solution
"The cardboard Mobo box was not wrapped in plastic, and was not sealed with tape, or a sticker, or anything at all."

That is now normal in most cases...My last 5 boards came like that ^

Hi, thanks for the response. Yes, the board is screwed down on the standoffs which are built into the case as the previous board was, so I assume this means it's grounded. The CPU is an AMD FX 8350, 8 core 4.0ghz.
I'm not getting any beeps, this is because i don't have the speaker installed though (one of the wires on that little speaker broke and I haven't fixed it, so I just installed without it) No codes either, although i can't get any sort of video on the monitor at all so. Is it possible that my CPU was fried along with the ASUS board?

Ahh okay. .thanks for the info, i was surprised that it came this way. .good to know though.
