My specs are roughly:
Intel-i7 (I also tested i5)
Gigabyte Aurorus 1080 (I also tested without it in)
Asus Prime MB
RM550x
I do not know my full specs as I own and have bought a lot of components.

The PC posts whenever I plug a drive into the sata slot on the PSU. The SATA PSU cable can stay plugged in without a drive and cause no issues, but whenever a drive is plugged into it, it posts. I've tried both an HDD and an SSD and both cause post. The harddrive hasn't been used in about two years, but the SSD was used yesterday. I have an extra SATA cable, but it's from a different PSU. It, however, matches the current PSU pins, shapes, and wattage.

So my questions are, will using a different SATA cable only put the PSU and drive at risk? Would switching out the cables be safe if they match (both also say GB-8 and SATA in the same location/sizes, but one is EVGA and one is Corsair)? Also would this be the cables fault or is it the PSU that arrived damaged? I can try to answer more spec questions if needed.

I think you made a typo...

The PC posts whenever I plug a drive into the sata slot on the PSU.

whenever a drive is plugged into it, it posts.

You mean it DOESN'T post, right?

Try again... Are you saying whenever power is plugged in, it posts, but whenever power and data is plugged in it doesn't? Or the other way around?

Also: Are you using ONLY the SATA power cables that came with the power supply?
