Hey Guys,

my PC wont start when my MSI GTX 970 is in it.

My Computer was running fine for almost a year, but a few weeks ago my PC just wouldnt turn on in the morning. I looked into the PC and checked if everything was fine, which it was, but my PC wont turn on.

So at one point, i took out my GTX 970 and yes, the PC started.
Then i put in my really old GPU from 2010 or something and the PC started aswell.
So i was asking around a bit and everyone told me my PSU sucks and has way to low Watt (450W).

Yesterday i orderd a new PSU (this one: http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/600-Watt-be-quiet--Straight-Power-10-Non-Modular-80--Gold_976847.html ) and I was pretty hyped because i thought that was the problem since my PC started with my old GPU and people told me my old PSU just couldnt handle my 970 anymore.
But it didnt fix it.

Same Issue, I press the power button and the LED's (small MSI Logo) from my 970 turns on for a millisecond, but then nothing happens. My PC wont turn on.
The funny thing is that i already sent my old 970 back to the company and they sent me a brand new replacement. I almost switched everything out from my PC including Mainboard (didnt change the CPU).
Im pretty clueless right now, dont really know what to do. People told me maybe they sent me a broken 970 because everything looks like its the GPU.

It would be awesome if somebody could help me out, I just dont really know what to do at this point.
Also sorry for the bad english, its my second language.

PC Build i used for almost 1 year without problems (PC only turns on with my AMD GPU see below):
MSI Nvidia GTX 970
MSI z97 Gaming 5
8 GB Ram
Intel i5-4590
Corsair VS450W

PC Build i use currently (PC starts, but not with my GTX 970):
AMD Radeon HD 6700
Gigabyte H97-D3H
8 GB Ram
Intel i5-4590
600 Watt be quiet! Straight Power 10 Non-Modular 80+ Gold

You English is actually quite good. :) I would remove the graphics card, and make sure the slot is clean. Take a can of compressed air and blow it out. After that, make sure the card, and your PCI-E cables are properly seated. A CMOS reset isn't a bad idea either. I have had issues of swapping cards around and system not booting up before. Usually the fans still work though. It is possible that MSI did send a bad card. Any chance of testing it in another system?

Sadly all people around me are laptop users, so i cant test the gpu in another system. Ill make sure the slot is clean tomorrow and test it again. I also try a CMOS reset.
The fans dont turn on for me. Like I said, when i press the power button nothing happens except that i hear a really quiet hiss from the 970 for like a millisecond + the MSI LEDs turn on for a millisecond but immediatly turn off again. When i press the power button again, the LEDs dont turn on again and i also dont hear the sound again unless i take the 970 out and put it in again.

Thanks for the fast answer

Hi dreezy,
Can you please let me know if you resolved this issue?

I am having the same exact problem.

I installed the MSI Geforce GTX 970 into my relatively new build. An Asus P8P67 Deluxe motherborad. Intel i7. NZXT Hale90 650 watt 80 Gold Plus PSU. All cables are correct and seated. GPU is locked in correctly. But when I press the power on button I too get a split second of MSI LED and brief click from the motherboard then nothing!

Did you replace the GPU for a new one?

Yes i did replace the GTX 970 twice. I got a Brand New one from MSI and the second one worked.

When i first sent them my 970 they gave me a already broken 970 so i gave them the 970 back again and they gave me another replacement and this time it worked. I use the PC now for 2 months again and everything works fine again. :)
