PC wont start with the new RAM

so heres some info:

just got a 2 gb RAM from the store.But when i tried it pc dind't boot.
I know its ddr 2 same as the old 1
I know the pc slot is good.(tried the old ram in the 2 slots.1 of a time and it worked)

probably not compatible? Not all brands and types are compatible. Motherboard makers have compatibility lists posted on their websites.

funny thing is that in 1 of the slot the new RAM works but only in that 1.but again both of the slots fine.
What i wanted to do is to upgrade from 1 gb to 3 gb(old RAM has 1 gb and the new 1 has 2gb) and the mobo supports 8 gb.

What DRAM and mobo? Did you try clearing CMOS first? Do you have latest BIOS?
