I bought a new motherboard, cpu, and case in attempt to build my own PC.
This is my first time doing this, so I'll ask stupid questions.
I'm using some of the old parts from my old PC, including the power supply.
I have the motherboard hooked up correctly I'm pretty sure. When I turn on the switch, all the lights on the case flash for a little under a second. Then the light on the power supply goes out until I unplug it for a little while.

Which M5A78L-M is it? The USB3, LX or the LX Plus?

Dont think its the LX I dont think it supports this CPU

The LX plus it needs BIOS 1001 on it to support this CPU

And the USB3 needs 1401

FX-6350(FD6350FRW6KHK,3.9GHz,6C,125W,rev.C0,AM3+) ALL 1401

FX-6350(FD6350FRW6KHK,3.9GHz,6C,125W,rev.C0,AM3+) ALL 1001

So, this is the reason why my PC won't turn on?

Possible yup. If it is, the only way you're going to flash it is take it to a shop ask them to flash it with a CPU it supports then put this one back in

Or you'll have to buy a CPU it supports then do it

It would have to be a CPU that says 0211 or under

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A78LMUSB3/HelpDesk_CPU/

Thats the first BIOS

Thanks, so if this is the case, i could get any of the CPUs on that list (0211 or under), and my PC will start and I can install the proper BIOS?

Ok. That looks like it, so it doesnt need a BIOS update it should support that CPU.

The 1801 at the end is the BIOS version thats on it. Thats 2 versions above the version it needs for this CPU.

So its something else, why its not going

Did you connect the ATX 12v, CPU fan and 24 pin properly?

What are the other old parts apart from the PSU?? Whats the PSU??

the PSU is the only old part i'm using, besides the CD disk drive.

the PSU is says Output 300W Max.
Is there anything else I should look at besides the wattage?
And I know the CPU and system fan are connected properly because they spin for less than a second when I turn on my PC, before it shuts down again.
