PCI-E 2.0 x16 and x8 Differences

I'm considering using the MegaRAID SAS 9240-8i to build a NAS for home network. The controller is a PCI-E 2.0 x8 but most mobo, including mine, have PCI-E 2.0 or 3.0 but x16. Can I install the controller in to the x16 slot?

Yes. The slot will "figure out" that it is only an x8 device.
