I already mining and want to add a second gpu for mining on my mobo. I bought a big PSU so it's all good. First slot(pci-e x16) is occupied with my current gpu and the second pci-e 3.0 slot works at 4x only and from the info I gathered it seems that it doesnt matter if it's not 16x, for mining is ok. I want to use a pci extender cable but the cable is pci-e 3.0 x16 cable, will the cable still work if its x16 and my slot is x4 ? I would say it work but want to be sure before I buy it https://www.thermaltake.com/gaming-pci-e-3-0-x16-riser-cable.html

Extenders are always a risk.
As far as x4 vs x16, if the extender fits in the motherboard slot, the card and motherboard will negotiate the x4 interface.

Risk meaning... ? Performance loss? Or not working at all ? Performance loss is minimal, max 1%, sometimes 0 as far as I've seen on a few youtube videos.

And your point?

My point was asking if the cable is safer? I haven't used any cables vs the classic risers so I don't know, only from what I've read. But I think you can't burn the GPU as that guy said in the link, worst case scenario doesn't work.. But it's true some cables work some don't, even from the same manufacturer, I've seen some youtuber experimenting about this.

Risk meaning it doesn't work at all. Any time you extend PCIe you change timing. There is only so much tolerance for that. The shorter the extender the higher the probability of success.
Seems Linus connected the cables between them and made a huuuge one, around 3.5 meters, which almost work. That's like 10-15 cables, so with 1 I won't have any problem. Leaving the link here in case someone in the future is asking himself the same questions as I am
