PCI-e Extension GTX 1060

My younger kid brother bought a GTX 1060. With my minimal knowledge of installing computer parts, I helped him install his new PSU and then when we went to install the GPU afterwards. We realized that there was a connection that looks like it goes to the power, USB, mic, etc interface on the face of the case. The issue is this connection comes up perpendicular to the mother board and sits directly behind the massive GPU and does not allow it to lay into the port.

The question is, would a PCI-e ribbon connect work at this location so we can move the GPU elsewhere. I was specifically looking this this one:

Well, the answer is yes and no. Yes - you can use PCIe riser like this to move GPU elsewhere. No - the problem is, the whole weight of GPU will be put on two screws when it is not connected to PCIe port; and that is not enough to support it.

What do you mean supported by 2 screws? I will still be mounting it to the inside of the case as I am fabbing out something for it and riveting it to the case. It will be fully supported with proper ventilation ect. Never done something like that before with a case but as long as the connection to the mother board is good with this extension, I feel confident with the mounting.
