Hello, I have question about connecting GPU and soundcard to motherboard.

I have verticaly mounted gpu (using pci-e riser) however I need to connect soundcard behind it.
Would it be possible to mount soundcard to the first pcie slot and riser to the second?
Would it slow down the GPU or not at all?

MOBO: MSI MAG Z390 Tomahawk
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1080Ti
Soundcard: Creative Soundblaster AE-5
Case: Fractal Design Vision S2

Thanks

Possible, Yes.
Slow down, Yes.

The second PCI-Ex16 slot on your motherboard is only rated at x4 (the third is @ X1). Almost certainly this puts a limit of the functionality of your GTX 1080Ti.

Questions:

  1. Is there not sufficient space below the vertical expansion slots to allow for your sound card installation in the normal PCI-Ex1 slot?
  2. Why are you using the riser in the first place?
  3. Can you install the sound card in the bottom PCI-Ex16 (x1) expansion slot?

Thanks for answer :)

Lets be fair :D The vertical is only for showcase since its watercooled
Ok gonna try the PCI-Ex1 slot under the first slot and hope that tubing and riser wont colide.
