Pci-e slot repair

Hi all,
i have just been given a desktop system, in the process of installing windows and replacing they cpu fan and all the rest i came across the pci-e slot but there was a problem ( it was gone ). i surfed the net and found my board ( intel d915gag ) and the pics showed a pci-e expansion slot. I inspected the motherboard closer and found the flat connection to where the pci-e slot once was.

My question is where can i get one from and how do i repair the slot.

All the flat connections are still there imbedded in the motherboard and the two holes where the slot connected to the motherboard. i have seen that some are as simple as connecting the pci-e slot back on to the motherboard with the pins on the flat connectors and it just clips in but then i have seen others that need a lot of work.

I don't know what pictures you're looking at but your M/B did not come manufactured with a PCI-E graphics slot on it, it is strictly a dedicated Audio/Video M/B, you can upgrade its video capability by acquiring a PCI Slot graphics card though.

Here is one page, i am confussed as i have seen some with the expansion slots and some with out, also the link that you have posted it only has 2 memory slots and mine has 4.

on the board its self by the pins it states ( pci-e x16 ) so thats what made me think that it was missing. you can see the pins on the link you posted just above the white pci slots.

I have got a gpu pci-e to go in to this motherboard, am i right in saying the white ones are x1 pci slots tho or is that wrong.

Depends on variations and revision numbers, also specifically whether the M/B was branded like for instance made specifically for Gateway, Intel would have made that M/B specifically for Gateways requirements.

i will look for another motherboard for the lga 775 cpu with a pcie x16 slot.

That is a PCI-E slot on the M/B you supplied the link to, if you could snag one of those you could swap it out, but hard soldering a PCI-E slot to the solder points of the M/B in your possession is way beyond your capabilities.

Well at least its way beyond my capabilities!

yes you are right it is beyond my capabilities, i would just swap the motherboard.

i think i will just look for a cheap motherboard to swap over, i know the socket is the lga 775 but do i need to stick with the 915g chipset or is that the onboard gpu.
The reason i ask is because there seems to be loads of lga775 boards out there with ddr 2 as well as sd ddr. i have a stick of ddr2 800mhz memory spare.

so could i get a lga 775 socket board with the ddr2 memory slots, would that work.

Is this a brand name computer like Gateway?

Both M/B examples are MATX (Micro ATX) form factor, so that specific M/B size will have to stay the same if you intend to transplant a new M/B in the same case.

If you find a socket 775 MATX M/B that runs DDR2 memory with a PCI-E slot, that will work for your situation, since you already have some DDR2 memory.

You're welcome, I just looked at Newegg, there are quite a few M/Bs for you to choose from there.

i have found a few that i like the look of but if is for my brother-in-law and i want to spend as little as i can lol.

You mentioned a pci graphics card all i can find is pci-e cards, i have a pci-e card and it does not fit in to the motherboard.

You can snag a PCI graphics card from Walmart, or Best Buy
