I have searched through various fourms and websites and cannot come up with a definitive conclusion....

Does the P35 support PCIE 2.0 or not...

I just purchased the GA-P35-DQ6 and would like the peace of mind that the board will be future proof for the next gen video card

Regards

It is important to note that though PCI-E 2.0 should be "supported" by P35, the P35 boards do not have PCI-E 2.0.

2.0 should be backwards compatible with 1.1, however you do not get the extra throughput in a P35 board... or at least any mobos out today. A good comparison is with AGP: you can run an AGP 8X video card in and AGP 4X slot, but you do not get 8X speed.

The big question right now is does it matter? I might be wrong here, but I do not think even the 8800 GTX takes full advantage of all 16 lanes in PCI-E 1.1 and therefore there is still some headroom.

This is incorrect to say it supports PCI-E 2.0....It doesn't...

the P35 like all other pci-e boards will be able to use PCI-E 2.0 graphics cards...PCI-E 1.1 has a bandwidth limit of 2.5 gb with a maximum power draw of 75 watts. PCI-E 2.0 doubles the bandwidth to 5 gb and doubles the maximium power draw to 150 watts...PCI-E 2.0 cards will work in pci-e 1.1 models it seems..But if the cards are able to surpass the 2.5 gb mark...they will be bottle necked. Also..PCI-E 2.0 uses a new 8 pin PCI-E connector...While PCI-E 1.1 uses a 6 pin connector...So overall...No..they don't support PCI-E 2.0...
