PCIe 3.0 x16 card work in a PCIe 2.0 x16 slot?

I want to buy a GTX970 and my motherboard has 1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (blue) and garphic card has PCIe 3 so if i put my graphic card in PCIe 2.0 port will there be any difference in performance.or should i not buy a GTX970.Will games be affected??

It'll be fine - no difference in performance at all.

There's no cards that can use all the bandwidth from pcie2.0x8 yet; let alone pcie3.0x8
