Question PCIe 4x GPU in a PCIe 2x slot?

Can I test a rtx 3090 I just picked up in a PCI Express 2.0 x 16 slot? That machine has an 850w PS.

Test what part of it? You should drop it onto a platform that has at least 1KW of power from a reliably build PSU.

Thanks for the reply. I bought the rtx 3090 locally from Craigslist and wanted to make sure it worked. Have not built the machine for it yet and the only desktops I have are PCI Express 2.0 x 16. Mute point since I just found out the rtx 3090 is too long to fit.

Too bad it does not fit.
It should run just fine at 2x. pcie 2/3/4 are both forward and backward cpmpatible.
The loss in performance is minimal.
