PCIE-express versions with motherboard

hey guys does larger PCIE version like PCIE 3.0 works on PCIE 2.0??
i'm buying a graphic card which is PCIE 3.0 than my motherboard is PCIE 2.0
does this work??does it need modding???

It is backwards compatible both directions!
