Pcie extension ribbon for soundcard

My graphics card is covering the small pcie slot. I want to insert a sound card

One of those extension cables work? Mounting the sound card below the motherboard.

If you can find a suitable place to mount the sound card then yeah, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Another solution would be to swap your card for a regular PCI one. X-Fi PCI cards can be found on EBay for under $15 here in the states.
