Hi everyone I'm in the process of building a new pc and had a question about how my graphics cards will run in crossfire if I use an SSD. I plan on getting a 4790k which can use up to 16 PCIe lanes. My question is if I use a sata express SSD will it use any PCIe lanes and bring one of my R9 290x cards to x4 like if I had an M.2 SSD?

Thank you.

Solution
Actually 20 lanes off the 4790k. Just that the board's slots are configured for 16x\0x and 8x\8x on most Z97 boards. M.2 and Sata Express Should be consuming the PCIe 2.0 lanes anyway, not the PCIe 3.0 lanes.

If you list the exact board, or read through the manual, you should see all the supported configurations.

Solution
IF you plug in a pcie based ssd in your 16.0 x 4 lane it will cut your 2.0 slots off just like the m.2 slot will
this will not effect your pcie 16.x16 slots bandwidth

its only a problem if you want to use an expansion card like wireless orm sound card as the 2 x 2.0 pcie slots will be disabled
