I am setting up a new pc

See attached image (https://photos.app.goo.gl/SB1BPu3UZLHjn4oD6).
I connected the PCI cable to the pins marked by red arrow and the graphic card did not get any power.
Moved it to the bottom 8 pins marked by green arrow and it worked. Should it now work in either of the 8 pins? Is the power supply defective? Should I return it and get another one?

Specs
  • Corsair CX750M power supply
  • MSI 570x gaming plus
  • Ryzen 3700
  • Sabrent 1TB NVME

Thanks

Are you using the CPU or GPU power cable?
CPU will likely be denoted on it "EPS", but if not, can be identified as one end being a 4+4 pin configuration.
Whereas, a GPU will be labelled "PCIe" or "VGA" - failing that, it should be a 6+2 pin configuration.

The red arrow has the connector upside down.

No cable should be interchangeable between where the red & green arrows point. The pin out is different on the other end, and you could (realistically) be sending 12V down ground if you force the issue.

Thanks JitteRS and Barty1884. The cable is an using has pcie written in the other end. I think JitteRS is probably right. The cables do look upside down. Will check tomorrow and let you know.
