PC's Time seems to be 'slow'... ???

Hi, my pc's time seems to be, for some bizarre reason, running about
10 minutes slow for every hour it's on... any ideas what the problem
could be? someone told me it must be the bios battery that's slow,
but I so rarely turn off my pc, I would've thought the motherboard
gets powered from the mains when it's on... any ideas?

Sorry to piggy back on your original question, but I was wondering if there
is a CMOS battery that I can change myself on a laptop because I am having
the same problem with the date and time not keeping up.

Depends on "your" laptop .

Most but not all later laptops have the lithium CR2032 "coin cell"
underneath one of the various "doors" on the bottom. I don't want
to; but I'm gonna have to say RTFM

If you are "unlucky"; you'll have to totally disassemble the damned
thing to find it. NEC Versa 4050's stuffed the CMOS batt under the
front keyboard cover; and to add insults NEC made it a "wiredplug"
unit .

1:If it loses time whilst the system is off then replace the Cmos
Battery but write down all your BIOS settings(See Manual)
download manual from mother board maker's site/support.

If it loses time whilst you are using it it's a sign of a program
causing it and some anti-virus programs have known bugs causing this
so change anti-virus program.I've had no problems with this freebie
superb and one of the best anti-virus programs.

2 Friends who recenlty had this issue with the PC loosing time when in
Windows eventually found it was a trojan / worm causing it. Suggest you
visit

and choose the 'scan for viruses' option just in case...
