Hello. I'm trying to run PCSX2 on my computer. But every game that I've tried so far runs like crap. My computer seems to be way above the recommend system requirements. But I can't get more the 20fps in any game, and the games are pretty much unplayable because of all the slow motion stuttering. So far I've tried splinter cell, and Battlefront 1, & 2.

My system specs are:

Amd A8 6600k

Gtx 750 ti

8gb ddr3 2400 4gb x 2

Solution

It really is, emulators need a ton of CPU power, disproportionate to what you would think they need.

Your CPU isn't enough to begin with. Don't waste the time.
I have problems playing games with it on my rig too, and it can handle AAA titles with ease. None of the PS2 games on that emulator play as good (or even close to as good) as the actual PS2. I gave up on it a couple months ago. I think its the emulator, not your PC.

^I hope this isn't the case ^
(Sorry I'm on my phone and it doesn't let me quote people)

Windows Vista / Windows 7 (32bit or 64bit) with the latest DirectX
•CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo @ 3.2 GHz or better OR i3/i5/i7 @ 2,8 GHz or better OR AMD Phenom II @ 3,2 GHz or better
•GPU: 8800gt or better (for Direct3D10 support)
•RAM: 1GB on Linux/Windows XP, 2GB or more on Vista / Windows 7

Well that sucks! I guess they need to update their recommended specs because according pcsx2's website these are the recommended specs

"Yeah take those with a grain of salt. It wishes it worked that efficiently to work on those processors."

Well that's good to know I guess.

How well do you think my specs will run dolphin? I'd really like to play splinter cell again!

"I've tried dolphin and pcsx2 on a 2500k and it worked fine with res and textures turned up."

You're talking about an i5-2500k right?

Is the i5-2500k stronger then an A8-6600k?

"The i5-2500k is far faster than your processor"

That is what I thought... I know that A series apu's dont have an L3 cache so that makes them preform a lot worse then the older model intel's. But based off of the recommended specs on PCSX2's website I thought my rig should be able to handle it better... Looks like I was wrong!

Are there any speed hacks or any addons I can use to make it run better?

"It's not highly threaded so being the same arch as fx should make it play just fine. Go look at usage and see if it's even the issue."

Ok but I'm at work ATM so it's going to be a few more hours before I can check it.

Can I check cpu/gpu usage with pcsx2, or do I need to download msi afterburner?

Ok using MSI Afterburner it shows:

CPU Usage: 63% (core #4 spiked up to 75% a few times)
GPU Usage: 58%
RAM Usage: 1750mb
FPS: 18-32

I'm not understanding why I'm not getting 60fps. Pcsx2 doesn't seem to be overloading my cpu or gpu, and its using very little of my ram. This doesn't make sense to me... But I know very little about this sort of thing
