Pentium D 850 in optiplex gx620

Hi i was wondering if the INTEL PENTIUM DUAL CORE G850 2.9GHZ would fit my optiplex gx620 mid-tower, please i need answers!

Did the GX620's for come with Pentium 4's? If thats the one you have the G850 is not going to fit(LGA 775 vs LGA 1155).

Yes, pentium D does work with an 620 optiplex. I have a 2,8 ghz D in mine.

Unfortuantly while the board will fit a Core2 duo cpu, it can not run it. There are not many upgrade paths. None are even worth it now days.

Pentium D950 and D960 should work, but not sure where you would get one. Those are faster, but still far slower then even an early core 2 duo(something your board will fit, but not run.)

That will not work as it is a Core2 Duo chip. It will fit the board(they are both LGA 775) but will either die or take out the board when you hit the power button(there was a power system change required for the new Core 2's back then they came out).

Only to the 9XX(950 would be best as dell once sold the systems with that cpu) cpus they are still P4 based(Pentium D not Pentium Dual Core)

They are hard to find now days.

Yes, I have the mid tower. I think it's a D 920, but it could also be an 820 or even 915 I suppose. Nukemaster is right, you won't be able to use anything more advanced than a pentium D in this. What is it fitted with now? Pentium D's really aren't that fast so don't spend a lot of money on them.

The best you can get that is a "Pentium D 950", but a "pentium D 945" seems about as fast and is a lot cheaper most likely.
