I've been seeing this idea from consumers who can't spell Pentium lately a bit and thinking "WTF?" I hate arguing with stupid, but can't rule out my own ignorance. Especially if I'm not into hardware as much as I should be.

My experience with any Pentium D processor has been pretty... poor. I don't think I've used anything with the Prescott core, but I could be wrong.

What has spawned this myth amongst the common consumer? If it is indeed a myth.

Pentium D = 2x Pentium 4 on a single die

But Pentium Dual Core is essentially a Core 2 Duo with disabled cache

Thanks for all the replies. This is something I'll need to research more later. I'm assuming issues popped up with the architecture that made the P4 more reliable than the Pentium D.

Back when I tested software, the only thing I liked about the Pentium D's I tested on was that they padded my bug count. They aren't processors that I'd willingly put in my system.

i got a system with a Pentium 560 in 2005. 3.6 GHz Pentium 4. i don't
know if that was the Prescott. it was socket 775.

2 of those in one multi-chip package ? how did they manage that without
re-designing it with smaller traces !! just one of 'em is hot.

ROFLMAO!!!!! sometimes... even when you offer your help... they rather go see the "seller" instead.. how stupid!

Oh, he's convinced he got the best deal possible. Pentium 4's are the golden standard, since that's what's on all of the game boxes, right? lol

Cant wait till he hits his first lan party. That'll learn em. 😛

yea pentium dual core's arent really any different to core 2's except they usually run at a slower fsb (meaning more ocing headroom!), with less cache.

i mean they even use the same naming scheme lol
