Performance issues on Rust

Hello, I had a few questions about my computers ability to handle Rust. I recently have seen a performance drop in Rust. I used to run the game on the highest graphic settings with no problem. I would get 101 FPS and I'm assuming that is the maximum for the game. The other day I started to play Rust with my friend and out of nowhere my game had crashed. I open the game with the same settings that I used previously and now the game runs at about 30-50 FPS which is still playable but not as smooth as I'd like. My PC specs are as follows: i5 6600k @3.5GHz, 2x4 8 GB DDR4 (Single Channel due to motherboard issues), GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5. I even have Rust on one of my SSD's. The thing that I've noticed when the game crashes is that it says it is running out of memory. I've increased the paging file to 8GB for the drive that holds Rust. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

That sounds like it could be an issue with a game update. A quick google and I found some folks on reddit complaining that it seemed like every other patch would break their fps. Rust was updated July 20, was your last "good" session before then? If so, I'd suggest filling out the feedback and noting the drop in performance (possibly a memory leak?): https://rust.facepunch.com/feedback

Unfortunately that can be the nature of early access games!

Well, Jimmy, I am going to have to disagree with you there. The i5 isn't "bad for gaming" seeing as 90% of games don't use more than 4 cores. Anyways I'm not going to spend all that extra money for a processor that isn't going to drastically improve my gaming experience. Besides, the problem I'm currently facing isn't because of a poor CPU. It's honestly my RAM running in single channel and the proposed memory leak for Rust which I what I had suspected. Now knowing that there isn't a thing I can do but wait until a fix. :)
