I use Blender on a regular basis, however my computer starts to lag after I reach around 100,000 polygons.
Now my computers specs are:
Motherboard: Supermicro X8DAH+-F
CPU: 2 x Xeon X5687 with 3.66 Ghz and 8 logical cores each
RAM: 40 GBs ECC (5 sticks each processor)
Graphics: ATI Radeon R9 290x Double D 3Gb Edition
There should be no reason that I would be experiencing lag, where my side computer, with only 4 Gbs of RAM, starts to lag at 500,000 polygons.
Now I heard from my IT guy that it may be because of my page file, and that Blender is taking time to access my HDD. It is also just blender, because Unreal Engine works just fine, which is way more taxing than Blender.
My question is should I move my page file, or disable it. Or could it be because the Xeon's are triple channeled, but I have 5 sticks per processor.
