i followed several tutorials to overclock my 980, but then later went back to default settings and now there are blue squares showing up on program borders and certain desktop areas. What might be causing this? Could it have anything to do with me overclocking my cpu?

Try uninstalling Evga Precision and see if it helps, have you tried restarting the PC? If this doesn't help then use Driver Sweaper to get rid of the drivers and reinstall them. Going to bed now so hope this helps, if not I am sure someone else will be along :)

no i did not touch the over-voltage setting at all and i used evga precision x. i just ran 3dmark and it went fine, did not see anything wrong. but when it exited they were all over the screen.
