I get the following problems on Windows 11 that I never got on my Mac, can it be fixed?
On my Mac I can move everything I want to my recycle bin, I'd like to do the same in Windows.

1. these 2 items are too big to recycle. Do you want to permanently delete them?

2. The folder contains items whose names are too long for the Recycle bin.

a whirl.

2| It's a good idea in the long run to have concise/short filename and avoid having folders within folders within folders within folders. I wasn't kidding on the deep folders part.
1. thank you

2. Are you saying there is no solution and I should accept that Windows is not working properly on this specific thing?

If all of the above suggestions do not work for you; then you can reboot into safe mode and try Shift + delete. If that does not work for any file or folder then it may be time to do a windows repair.

Or Nuke it from orbit. - shrugs -

If the path is too long, it is too long.

Path = folder + filename.

Thats just the way Windows works. And has since Day 1.
Macs are different.
Thank you, but I just got an other bugs.

1. I couldn't transfer the totality of some files, from an hard disk to an other, because the folder name or path was too long.
2. Again I couldn't erase a folder after giving 600gb of space on the bin.

Are those bugs or is Windows not that good?

No, they are not "bugs".
Its just the way Windows was designed.
255 characters max for the full path.

Folder/subfolder/subfolder/subfolder/subfolder/subfolder/subfolder/subfolder/subfolder/subfolder/subfolder/Ridiculously Long File Name.xls
...is only 138 characters.

If your data is stored and constructed differently, you'll run into problems.

So, I love Linux. I don't use it nearly as much as I do Windows, but that's another story.

What you describe as a problem that needs a fix is no more a problem than me saying these software suites and hardware devices won't work natively in Linux.

Windows and Linux (pick a distro) are different operating systems. They operate differently.

Okay, thank you. I'm sorry to hear Windows can't do these simple things. It is the reason why I'm still using both Mac and Windows. (this plus all the bugs)

If I can't move and erase files this rule is clearly problematic and someone should do something about it or the software will never get better. if someone choose this rule in Microsoft it must be fired.
That person is almost certainly long gone.
Windows OS has been this way since Day 1. 40+ years ago.

256 is the maximum number that can be represented in an 8-bit binary number (28 = 256). Someone in the antiquities of Windows development decided that the maximum length of a path would correspond to the maximum value of a byte.

I'm quite certain, if I were to poke around in MacOS (i'm not) I could find some things that don't work exactly the same as it does in Windows.

Why do you have to use recycle bin?
Personally for me - if I want to delete something, then I want it to be gone and used space released.

Delete with Shift+delete - and it's deleted instantly (without being placed into recycle bin).

Yup I just Shift Delete everything and then if that doesn't work I do it in safe mode and THen if that doesn't work I have a special program that usually delete's things on reboot.

if I get annoyed enough with it, I just Nuke it from orbit.
