After Reuters which mentioned "Arabian gulf" instead of "Persian gulf"(And they had to change it due to protests),now it's White house's turn.
Have a look at this file
http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/counterterrorism_strategy.pdf
In page 10,"Arabian gulf" is mentioned twice.
Seriously what's going on ? you don't have to be an Iranian to know it's called Persian gulf.
I've seen Arabian governments calling it the Arabian gulf but I didn't expect USA to do the same.
This gulf was originally called Persian gulf and can't be changed.
Thoughts ?

I agree ... Persian is a much nicer word ...

If you want Persian to remain in their vocab then you will need to put it on the side of their milk cartons for a couple of years.

The recent "Prince of Persia" might help ... quick a sequel !!

reuters is a well known lib slinger, and currently, they reall want to ignore that Iranians (thus Persians) exist.
Or maybe they all think its the same, and reAl news with real facts arent important anymore?

arguments in favor of the "Arabian Gulf" are appalling.

By what right can Google do that? Tomorrow I will start a debate. I want to change the names of Chicago and Albuquerque (which really makes no sense for a city)

I believe what people are seeing here is simply what certain groups, aligned with the media have been doing for awhile now, find a way to control the conversation, whether thru verbal attack, elevating certain things to the same levels of much older and established mindset without any merit on its own, other than sometimes just being "new", thus enthralling, or to subtly just change words and their meanings

One reference would be a NY times ed. about the supreme court, where they stated that all the lib judges were the norm, and everyone else was far rightists on the court.
To me, these people do have an agenda, and cant be easily excused for their actions, as again, they try to change things towards their mindset, to easily "educate" others into this "consciousness"

Its simply a way of diminishing what was, to now what can be claimed.
Where we often change the name of a country, as the people there, or despot' there decide to do so, we usually dont do so with bodies of water.
What motivates such things?

A countries name change is done thru power, thru political means at the best, and takeover at the worst, which is still political
The Persians have been around for quite sometime, and somehow I think the Greeks of old never called it anytrhing but the Persian Gulf, even tho they were at odds

The problem is by the time when "Shah" was in Iran,he made an interview about it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYTfZOfTUhg
Which he claimed it is the Persian gulf and will remain Persian gulf for ever.
But this government seem to enjoy the "Arabian gulf" because I never see them saying anything against it.

But honestly,it doesn't matter. You simply can't change the name of a gulf which was named thousand years ago.

Persian Gulf seems most appropriate ... Google seems to agree.

Lets see what google says over the coming days.

Unforunately the results probably won't be very representative of the majority of the people in the region though ...

They have the "Arabian Sea" so they're united with that.Persian gulf does exactly the opposite thing.Differing us from Arabs.

True ... but too many people watched Lawrence of Arabia, the Arabian Knights and other such fairly tales ... not to mention all of the Billy Bunter and Biggles books ... where anything not pink with blonde hair and blue eyes was either a villain ... or not to be trusted.

Our media (print and then TV) right back to the early days was xenophobic ... has it changed much?

Well I had lunch (Thai green curry) at my sister in laws (Thai / Aussies) then dropped my son at his friends (English) and then picked him up later, after they had Indian curry with a Swedish family ... we grabbed a couple of Mcdoubles on the way home as we were peckish ... I received a phonecall in the car from my Indian friend who is in Vietnam on holiday and he asked me to drop a bag of resiflex (for tiling) to our Syrian mate Adib tomorrow on a job.

All of the people described above are Aussies ... sure some of them have accents but we get along just fine ... no police or soldiers here ... no supercarriers on patrol.

Feel a bit sick from the mcdoubles though ...

Had one of them too
Id come home from the road, wanting to spend some hard eaned, take her out to the finest cajun restruants around, but no, shed rather cook and go fishing in the river, a true country girl, and yes, its true what they say about country girls

Finally after lots of protests in their facebook page, they changed it.They said that it was a mistake and the name is Persian gulf and no one can change it.
But I don't think they would have changed it if there were no protests.

To me, the whole thing was a political move to diminish Irans positioning.
This isnt against Persians as much as it is against Iran and its current leaders.

One has to take into acount of ideas, or mindset/conciousness.
The media et al are always playing these games, and the people have to sometimes rise up against such notions

Ahmadi-nejad believes that not Iranians. What the leaders say are completely different compared to people's ideas.
And how come is the Holocaust related to Persian gulfs name that you bring that into this topic ?
